This Unit is Designed For:
Those who assess in the workplace using direct and indirect methods of assessment, including, for example, observation, questioning, work product, professional
discussions, simulations, written evidence such as witness statements and candidate statements and RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning)
Individuals assessing against National Occupational Standards and company-specific standards
There are no pre-requisite qualifications for undertaking this Unit
This Unit is Appropriate for You if You:
Are technically competent in the area you will assess
Have access to two candidates who are working towards their qualification in the workplace or require assessing as part of an in-house competence/quality system
Are willing to carry out assessments and make assessment decisions
Are prepared to ask questions as required to clarify understanding of the standard(s) being assessed
Can judge whether the candidate’s performance/responses are acceptable and satisfy the requirements of the standard(s) being assessed
Can correctly complete the assessment paperwork/reports
Can give and write constructive feedback to the candidate on the results of the assessment
Have a basic understanding of the English language

1. Preparing and planning assessments
2. Assessing candidate’s performance and knowledge
3. Confirming candidate progression and achievement
4. Documenting each of the above according to the requirement of the management system in the workplace
5. How to build a portfolio of evidence that meets the L&D9DI standard
6. How to demonstrate knowledge of the above processes and a range of knowledge related to competence assessment in the workplace
